| Hey guys,
When I left school with not so impressive grades, I went to Hull College and earned a Merit (yes, a Merit) on the First Diploma for IT Practitioners 1 year Course.
I have just finished the year and I'm going back to Hull College to start the Advanced Diploma in IT Course, I am aiming to get a Merit on this one also, after that I will be able to go to University and fulfill my hopes for the future :P
I am having so much fun, life is good (most of the time) 8)

| OMG it's been nearly ten years since I left school!! And I sometimes wish I was still there. Just been looking at the list of teachers there now and I dont recognise hardly any of them on there. Glad to see Mr Jolly, Mr Bussey, Mr Riley, Mr Hull and Mr Bishop are still there!! I loved my school days at Hessle High (although it may not of seemed like that back then!). I would love to go back for a week to see how much, if anything has changed. Would just like to add that I have seem Mr Rose on various occasions at Penshurst School as my little girl goes to the nursery there and he hasnt aged one bit in ten years!! Enjoy xxx |

| Wow...doesn't time pass!! I have just found this page by coincidence, via Google Earth (went in to play around with the new flight simulator, and one click led to another!).
I left Hessle High School in 1964, at the tender age of 16 (no maths needed, I'm 59- don't feel it - don't look it!!), after 'O' Levels, and went to work at what was then called The Yorkshire Bank.
I can't say that whilst I was at school I particularly raved about having to be there every day, although looking back they really were(among others) the "best days of my life" (Mam was right, as usual). At "Top School", as it was generally known then, lots of new friendships were formed - kids from C of E and Penshurst - and quite a few are still strong to this day.
I still remember my first day at school at the C of E infants school down The Hourne - Miss Sonley was my teacher. I remember the new C of E being built down Northolme Road, and also remember the extension being built onto the left-hand side (looking at it from the playing fields)of the main House at Hessle High on Heads Lane circa 1962/1963. Our French-class window gave out onto the building site (very interesting site-or is that sight?-indeed!!). We had Domestic Science classes in a room at the top of the stairs and to the left, in the old building,(next to the Head's office). Biology was in the "lab" at the top of the concrete stairs which led up from the quad, above the cloakrooms (wonder if it's all still the same). (Poor Pamela Gapman-someone put a slow-worm in her satchel). Our Biology teacher was Mr Wilson. Does anyone else out there still remember Mrs.Kelsall (Kelloggs), Daddy Dossor (maths), Mr. Hebden (Geography and sub-Headmaster - also taught my Dad), Mr. Morgan (Headmaster), Miss Platt (sports), Miss Greenfield/ Mr. Houston (French) and, of course, the girls' ever-reliable support, "Mrs. Hornshawe" Major-she was just superb.
I moved away from Hessle in 1972 and came to live in Spain. I married a Spaniard in 1975, and we live just north of Barcelona. The last time I visited the school was 25 year ago.
My Dad and all my sisters (4) went to Hessle High, and are still living nearby.
When I buy British newspapers, and read about the current problems in schools around England, I feel proud to have had the opportunity to go to such an outstanding school which, apart from the very good education given, also knew how to give the correct discipline to students, so fundamental for the future.

Found this guestbook by following a link on good ol' Friends Reunited.
I was at Hessle High from 1967 to 1973. Yes kids, before the days of mobile phones, texting, and Big Brother, when the internet was only on two afternoons a week in black and white, and Ena Sharples was still under the viaduct in Coronation Street.
We used to have to make our own amusement in those days, mainly by being sent on long cross-country runs along Hessle Foreshore (it'd never happen today - Health and Safety would kill it stone dead).
What can I say about Hessle High. It was a great school. It still seems to be, by the looks of this web site. Not quite sure what a specialist Science college is, I dropped anything to do with science like a hot brick in the third year, still I managed to get six "O" levels and 2 "A" levels out of the place and become the first person from my family ever to go to a University (just).
Before I sign off I'd like to pay tribute to some of my teachers - Mr Grant who taught me English and set me off writing poetry almost 40 years ago, Frau Graham, who taught me German (I can still sing the Lorelei by Heinrich Heine on request. I don't get many requests) Daddy Duncum who taught us French, who might be pleased to know I can get by quite comfortably there on holiday and even find my own way to La Plage, but there's no sign of M. Thibaut or Lynne, Mr James who taught me the exciting bits of history (The English Civil War and the Industrial Revolution) and introduced me to Monty Python, and poor old Mr Milligan who got stuck with teaching me the boring bits (Stanhope's foreign policy and the American Revolution)Mr Hewitt and Mr Dossor whose lives I must have shortened by my inability to do maths, Mr Wrigglesworth for chemistry (another dismal failure - me, I mean, not him, he was very good at it, that's why he was a chemistry teacher) Mr Jackson, Mr Armstrong and Mr Telford for all those drumlins, eskers and oxbow lakes in Geog, and finally the late, great Molly Major "come and clean the board, Judd!" who terrified the living crap out of me.

| Hi everyone at Hessle High! i av just left yr 11 and now i am enjoying my 10 week holiday b4 1 return back 2 the school 2 enroll in 6th form! i miss the school and all the teachers and all my friends! i would like 2 say that 2 all the other years at the school enjoy school while you have the chance because wen it is over you miss it soooo much! i wud just like 2 say thankyou 2 miss Davenport and all my other teachers in helping me through my GCSE'S i am now waiting 4 my results! hessle high is great and i am soooo glad 2 hav another 2 years at the school and gain good a level grades! enjoy the rest of term and all have a good summer holiday! c ya all in september! |
