Health and Social Care: Learn, Care, Make a Difference!
Studying Health and Social Care allows you to explore care services while developing valuable knowledge and practical skills for a range of roles.
The aim of the Key Stage 4 BTEC Health and Social Care curriculum is to broaden students’ understanding of the many pathways and roles within the sector, while also equipping them with skills needed for employment. This vocational qualification uses a hands-on, motivating, and practical style of teaching and assessment to support effective learning.
The course helps students recognise a variety of individual needs and understand the range of services available across primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Core areas of the curriculum focus on human growth and development, core care principles, and health and wellbeing. Throughout the course, students build essential skills such as empathy, awareness of lifestyle influences, and an understanding of social, cultural, and economic factors, alongside exploring issues such as stereotyping, discrimination, and the value of a person-centred approach.
Students are encouraged to work both independently through assessment tasks and collaboratively with others, fostering confidence, curiosity, and a strong motivation to learn.
The curriculum is structured sequentially, with each unit building on prior learning to strengthen understanding over time. This approach supports students in developing confidence and provides opportunities to apply their knowledge in practical and meaningful contexts.
